    Antigua has got competition

Looks like Antigua has got its work cut out with the UK recently announcing that it will be upgrading its online gambling industry. The UK intends to raise the bar by requiring every operator that offers gaming services to acquire a license from the Gambling Commission of the United Kingdom. This announcement has obviously got Antigua a bit concerned. Antigua and Barbuda are one of the first online gambling jurisdictions to legally recognize online gambling operators from all over the world.

It was Antigua that had brought to the notice of the World Trade Organization the violation of the agreement by the US when it shutdown online gambling in 2006. What the UK intends to do now is “phase out the so-called ‘white-list’ of online gaming regulatory jurisdictions”, according to Harold Lovell, Minister of Finance. He further stated that the UK intended to continue to work with Antigua and Barbuda and the other white listed jurisdictions in order to uphold their confidence and that Antigua and Barbuda would continue their efforts to create an approach that were based on the international best practices. The Minister is quite confident about the new rules that are being put in place and believe that it will generate a more stable environment for casino gambling.
