In Massachusetts, USA, during June the issues regarding casino gambling will be discussed to help educate legislators before bills are considered. The lawmakers in Massachusetts last year couldn’t write a bill to legalize casino gambling so they are trying to do it again now. I think they need the money due to the bad economic times and regulating casino gambling will bring a lot of money from gambling taxes.

The chairman of the state House Economic Development Committee, Representative Brian Dempsey, announced recently that gambling will be discussed in the legislative session sometime in September. However, co-chairman of the Senate, Senator Karen Spilka, said that September is too far away and that it needs to be done much sooner. On the 29th of June, she will hold a hearing on casino gambling, which she thinks is necessary… “We’re going forward”.

Senator Karen Spilka said that the hearing in June is just a preliminary to educate legislators and provide them with enough information so that by the time the debate begins, they will be informed totally on the situation and issues with regard to casino gambling. “Since this is so new, I want to start gathering some information so that by the time we have the hearing, I’m knowledgeable enough”.

The Senator explained that they will consider using gambling to generate much needed state revenue. The hearing will be open to the whole Senate and she hopes they will all participate in it.
