The European online gambling provider, Bwin, visited Harvard for a deep research to be done on Internet gambling. Since Harvard is known to be the criterion from which most of the other educational institutions are judged, Bwin assumed they were approaching the best place for their study.This prestigious Medical school assigned the study to the Harvard Medical School’s Addiction Department who had previously done a research on online gambling. Their result stated that online gambling is becoming more and more popular but online gambling addiction is not. Over the past 20 years, the gambling addiction rate has remained almost the same.

Dr. Howard Shaffer who is the Director of Harvard Medical School Addictions Department says that the researches clearly show that people who gamble online do it on a moderate basis.

Several gambling opponents who speak against Internet gambling have stated that players cannot control themselves while playing online which leads to addiction and they lose more than what they can afford to. However, after conducting the study, Dr. Shaffer has proved the opposite of that statement.

The research has also shown that in general when the percentage of loss increases for the gamers, that lead to a decrease in the total gambling sessions, the duration and the amount wagered as well.

That clearly indicates that the players do vary their playing behaviors according to their gains or losses meaning they are in control.

This study was conducted in the Harvard Medical School in order for Bwin to be able to identify problems associated to gambling online. Now with the help of the researches and results they will be able to manage their games in a better way and also be prepared to prevent gambling problems from occurring.
